ASTY Hotel: know our neighbourhood

​

Food: There are a many restaurants, of different cuisines, near the hotel. Some we recommend are: Karvounotsimpimata Tavern, Leventis tavern, Syrian Friendship, Pantopolio Kali Oreksi, Latchi fish tavern, Vasilis Tavern, Gia Souvlaki etsi Apla, Megas Alexandros gyros, Just Italian, Jamie’s Italian.

  • At reception you can find delivery menus. Feel free to order and ask for plates and cutlery.

 

Cafes: ‘Engomi area’, which starts at the road behind the Asty, is where one of Nicosia’s trendy café scenes is. You will find Café Nero, Coffee Beanery, Gloria Jeans, Second Cup, Costa and a few local places. They serve coffees, teas, cakes, and some have sandwiches, salads etc.

Bakery:  Zorbas is open from early morning to late night. It sells bread, sweets, savouries and other Cyprus delicacies (eg. spinach, olive and halloumi cheese pies), as well as food. Left outside the hotel and 5 minutes up the road you (close to Bank of Cyprus and Agios Dometios Byzantine church).

Bank: The closest bank and cash machine is the Bank of Cyprus, left outside the hotel.

​

Swimming pools and tennis: The Nicosia Municipality Olympic pool is less than 15 minutes on foot while the private Eleon swimming pool and tennis club is not even 10 minutes on foot.

​

28 Oktovriou Str: The “up and coming” avenue with many cafes, restaurants and shops, a traditional ice cream place and children’s playground “Papaphilipou” and the Mall of Engomi.

Monastery: The Kykkos monastery Metoxi, comprising a stone-built church, priests’ cells and a nice big garden with plants and birds is near the Russian, US and Egyptian embassies (10-minute walk).

 

Pediaios park / mansions: If you would like to see some old aristocratic mansions and visit one of the few Nicosia parks, you can take a 15 minute walk from our hotel (outside go right, in the direction of the old city centre) to Gladstone street.

 

Tip: Outside the hotel (left) and at a 5 minute walk you will find our areas gem, the old Byzantine church of Agios Dometios!
